MILKA DUNO HONORED WITH PRESTIGIOUS
VENEZUELAN SPORTS AWARD
November 6, 2006, Los Angeles, CA...Milka Duno, CITGO Racing's standout
female race car driver, was recognized last Friday, November 3, 2006
with
the inaugural "Chico" award from Venezuela's National Sports Institute.
The
first-year event honored 25 current and former professional athletes
that
compete on both a national and international level.
Honored alongside Milka were Luis Aparicio, the first Venezuelan to
be
inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, and Johan Santana,
the
American League's Cy Young Award winner in both 2004 and 2006
The "Chico" award, named after Alfonso "Chico" Carrasquel, recognizes
the
professional careers of Venezuelan athletes in several sports disciplines
-
and honors the memory of Chico - the great Venezuelan baseball player
and
the first Latin in history to participate in the USA's Major League
Baseball
All-Star Game.
The prestigious national award also recognizes those Venezuelan athletes,
like Milka, that have helped instill national pride among Venezuelan
sports
fans and those in the Venezuelan sports industry due to the high level
of
their competition and success in many countries and regions such as
the
United States and Europe.
"This is such a huge honor for me and I am so very proud to be included
among these incredible athletes," said Duno. "It was so wonderful to
meet so
many of them for the first time. I feel so much pride that I am Venezuelan
when I compete all over the world - even my race car carries the Venezuelan
flag!"
