CITGO RACING'S SONOMA
RACE REPORT
Duno,
Carpentier and CITGO Team Roll "7 for 11" at
Sonoma
August 26, 2006, Los Angeles, CA...Milka Duno, Patrick Carpentier and
the
CITGO Racing crew earned a top-ten at today's Sonoma 250 at Infineon
Raceway
in Sonoma, CA with a strong 7th place finish. The #11 CITGO Pontiac
Riley
Daytona Prototype reached podium territory by advancing as high as
3rd, and
remained in the top-five for many laps before eventually taking the
checkered flag 7th overall.
Carpentier started today's race 13th on the grid and charged to 4th
before
handing the car off to Duno on lap 24 during the first caution of the
race.
Duno kept the effort safe and trouble-free before handing the car back
to
Carpentier during the second caution period. Carpentier continued his
charge
up the field and into the top-five, but needed to make a final "splash
and
dash" pit stop under green flag conditions for enough fuel to finish
- which
sent him back down to 9th. With ten laps remaining Carpentier was able
to
advance to 7th.
Milka Duno
"The CITGO Racing team has been working very hard all season and we
really
put forth a strong effort with our 7th place finish today. It was wonderful
to race with Patrick for the first time and we all worked very well
together. What really made today's race even more special is that we
had a
large group of guests from CITGO attending and cheering us on! It was
great
to have them here and to be able to deliver to them an exciting race
with a
strong finish!"
Patrick Carpentier
"I'm very happy. I've been off on my farm for quite some time and I've
been
enjoying my newborn baby and my daughter. But it was great to get the
call
to come back to racing. Milka was very nice. We both seemed to like
the same
thing in the car and she really progressed throughout the weekend.
We made
great progress even though we missed
Thursday because of a problem. I just want to say thank you to CITGO,
it's
great to be back in racing. All the guys, [team owner] Peter Baron
and the
team, they worked really hard."
