CITGO RACING'S WATKINS GLEN II
PREVIEW
Duno
and CITGO Racing to Welcome Barbosa to 2nd Watkins
Glen Race
August 7, 2006, Los Angeles, CA...Milka Duno and CITGO Racing head
to
Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, NY for the second time
this
season. Portugal's Joao Barbosa will share driving duties with Duno
in the
#11 CITGO Pontiac Riley for the Crown Royal 200 at The Glen this Thursday
and Friday, August 10 and 11, 2006.
Barbosa will substitute for Duno's scheduled teammate Corvette Racing
driver
Olivier Beretta. Increased tire competition in this year's Formula
One World
Championship has resulted in Beretta, in accordance with his agreement
with
Michelin, being called away from the Watkins race with Duno to perform
in
his role as a Formula One test driver for Michelin.
Milka and CITGO Racing competed in June at The Glen for a six-hour
race on
the 3.4-mile road course with both the DP (Daytona Prototype) and GT
(Grand
Touring) classes racing together - which is the standard field for
a Rolex
Series event. This event will be a two-hour race between DP's only
- for
which a total of 26 have entered.
Milka Duno
"I really enjoy the all-DP format because all the cars on the track
will be
more evenly matched and therefore much more competitive. In addition,
since
there will be no GT's, we won't be slowed by them - nor can we use
them to
our advantage - especially in overtaking situations.
While I'm sad that Olivier can't be with us at this race, I know he
will be
back with us very soon and wish him great luck with the tire testing.
At the
same time - it will be great to race with Joao. We've worked together
in the
past in Europe and it was great fun and a valuable experience. I very
much
welcome his participation and I'm sure he will fit in great with the
CITGO
Racing team!"
Joao Barbosa
I'm very excited about joining CITGO Racing and SAMAX Motorsport for
Watkins
Glen. I have known Peter [Baron, team owner] for a few years and I
know what
a good job they are able to do. They have a good engine/chassis combination
and I'm looking forward to partnering with Milka and to try and give
the
team a strong result. Milka has done incredibly well now and in the
past
seasons. I know we have all the right ingredients to achieve a strong
result
in a very competitive series!"
The Friday evening race will begin at 6:30pm ET with live timing and
scoring, plus audio in English and Spanish, available at

SPEED Channel will air a same-day tape-delayed
broadcast of the race beginning Friday night at 9pm ET.
