MILKA TO THROW “FIRST PITCH” AT COLUMBUS CLIPPER’S FRIDAY NIGHT BASEBALL GAME

June 28, 2002 Lexington, Ohio – American Le Mans Series driver Milka Duno will throw out the ceremonial “first pitch” at tonight’s Columbus Clipper’s baseball game. The Clippers are the New York Yankee’s Triple–A Affiliate here in Ohio.

Not having much experience at tossing a hardball, Milka enlisted the teaching support of her MBD Sportscars’ crew and fellow drivers. After setting up an artificial mound, and walking off the regulation sixty feet, the good-natured instruction began. Anyone who knows Milka will surely tell you that this is a woman that does not walk away from a challenge.

After being explained the basics – which Milka quickly grasped – she stepped onto the mound and in no time was hurling surprisingly good pitches across the makeshift plate.

“Never before have I seen such under-developed baseball talent,” exclaimed MBD Technical Director and honorary “pitching coach” Larry Holt. “It’s simply amazing. I doubt though that we’ll be able convince her to chew tobacco while on the mound!”

“I caught a couple of her pitches during my stint behind the plate,” said teammate John Graham. “My hand is still stinging!”

When asked if she was ready for tonight’s game Milka replied with a grin – “I hope that baseball’s going to be very, very good to me!”
