MILKA TO SPEAK AT CAREY RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 7, 2010) – Through her “Milka Way” program, IndyCar driver Milka Duno will speak to approximately 125 fourth grade children and their teachers at Carey Ridge Elementary School in Westfield, IN on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 9am EST. Milka will be in Indianapolis during the week for the IndyCar Series 2010 Season Preview Meeting and 2010 Driver Physical.
Milka will speak with the students about the importance of education and will read from her award-winning children’s book “Go, Milka, Go!” Milka will also answer questions from the children and staff, pose for photos and sign autographs.
Carey Ridge Elementary works with the community to provide a learning environment that supports opportunities to engage in intellectual, global, and creative challenges; empowers children to assume responsibility for how they think, feel, and act; and uses a variety of resources to enhance and nurture life long learning.
In addition to being the one of the most successful female race car drivers, Milka is also a qualified Naval Engineer with four master's degrees - in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Aquaculture and Maritime Business – earning the last three degrees simultaneously. Through her “Milka Way” program Milka strives to inspire children and young adults to “Aim for the Stars” and achieve academic excellence and has taken this message to schools across the USA and around the world to help motivate children and help them understand the importance and value of education.
“Go, Milka, Go!” – Milka’s bilingual children’s book was awarded the Best Young Adult Sports/Recreation Book of 2009 at the 11th Annual International Latino Book Awards. The ceremony, held in New York City on Thursday, May 28, 2009, took place during BookExpo America, the largest publishing event in North America. The prestigious awards honor literary excellence within the Latino community in a variety of categories.
