MILKA DUNO BOTH AN HONOREE AND PRESENTER AT 2009 ALMA AWARDS
The 2009 ALMA Awards will air this FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on ABC

Los Angeles, CA - IndyCar driver Milka Duno has been selected as a Special Achievement Honoree in the Sports Category as part of the 2009 NCLR ALMA Awards®. Duno will also co-present the Male Actor/TV Comedy ALMA Award with Rainn Wilson from the hit television show “The Office.”

The 2009 NCLR ALMA Awards®, co-hosted by film and television actors Eva Longoria Parker and George Lopez, pays tribute to Latino heritage in film, music, television and sports. The show tapes this Thursday, September 17 at the Royce Hall Auditorium at UCLA and will air this Friday, September 18 from 8 to 10 p.m. ET/PT on the ABC Television Network.

The 11th edition of the NCLR ALMA Awards® will feature performances by Shakira, David Archuleta, Nelly Furtado, Sean Kingston, and Pitbull with appearances by Salma Hayek, Oscar De La Hoya, Selena Gomez, Benjamin Bratt, Nadine Velazquez, Dania Ramirez, JoAnna Garcia, Michelle Rodriguez, Kat Von D and more.

For the first time in the history of the show, the ALMA Awards will broadcast during National Hispanic Heritage Month, a month in which all Americans learn about the Latino community and celebrate the contributions that Latinos have made to this country throughout its history.

About Milka Duno
Duno is the first and only Hispanic female driver in the Indy 500 and IndyCar Series and she competes with the Dreyer & Reinbold racing team in the #23 CITGO-sponsored car. In the 2008 IndyCar Series season finale at Chicagoland Speedway Duno became the first Latina in history to lead an IndyCar race. She also led the most race laps of any female driver during the 2008 season and was the only female driver to finish at the 2008 Indy 500.

Off the track, Duno is a certified Naval Engineer who holds four master's degrees, earning the last three simultaneously.
