CITGO Racing Team Carries Momentum to Mexico City

Duno looking to close '05 with another podium
finish
Denver, N.C. (November 1, 2005) . The #2 CITGO Racing Team has been
anxiously waiting four weeks for their trip to Mexico City and the final
race of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series season. Not because
they're ready for the season to conclude, but anxious to score another
podium finish for their CITGO Pontiac Crawford and Howard-Boss Motorsports.
On Sunday afternoon, October 9th, Andy Wallace and Milka Duno co-drove the
#2 CITGO Pontiac Crawford to a second-place finish in the VIR 400 at the
Virginia International Raceway. It was the third podium finish of the 2005
season for CITGO Racing and gave the talented duo momentum entering the
historic first-ever Rolex Series race in Mexico City. Wallace and Duno
teamed with Jan Lammers to win the 6 Heures du Circuit Mont-Tremblant
(Quebec, Canada) in May, and Wallace and Lammers teamed with NASCAR star
Tony Stewart to finish third in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in February. So, the
strong performance and second-place finish at VIR was a welcomed sight for
the second-year CITGO Racing Team and Howard-Boss Motorsports.
"It's been a difficult season for many reasons," Wallace stated. "There's
no doubt that we have had a strong Pontiac Crawford at many events,
but several
on-track incidents have ended our hopes. It's been frustrating at times
because we know that our CITGO Racing Team has performed much better than
our record indicates. The win at Mont-Tremblant was special and we've got
one more opportunity this year to score another victory."
"I've raced at this course earlier in my career," Wallace added. "It's a
challenging course, but one that will provide lots of action for both
competitors and fans. And, speaking of the fans, we'll have a huge crowd the
entire weekend. That's exciting for our series and our sponsors as well as
our teams. We'd love to win the first Rolex Series race in Mexico City."
Teammate Duno shares the excitement Wallace mentioned. "I've always wanted
to race in Mexico, and in particular at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez,"
Duno commented. "The generous support of the Mexican racing fan is known
throughout the world, and it will be amazing to have so many people in
attendance for the races. This is the first time that the Rolex Series will
race there and they have already put Mexico City on the schedule for next
year."
"It's been a very competitive and challenging year, and I have no doubt that
our last race of the season in Mexico will be the same," Duno concluded.
"We're
bringing some momentum with us due to our podium finish at our last race and
I'm hoping that the energy, combined with the fantastic fan support
in Mexico, will help us deliver a great result for the team and for CITGO
Racing."
The 250-mile, 90-lap event is set for a 4 PM ET green flag on Saturday
afternoon, November 5th. Speed Channel will provide live coverage of the
final event on the Grand American Rolex Series schedule for 2005. Practice
and qualifying will be held on Friday, November 4th. With momentum from
their VIR finish fresh on their minds, the #2 CITGO Racing Team looks to
stand proudly on the podium at the conclusion of this historic event.
